In this course, I will provide lessons, tutorials, videos, reference sheets, and quizzes to help you better understand how to use a TI-84 (or TI-83) Graphing Calculator when doing Algebra.

What knowledge and tools are required?

  • Basic Mathematics
  • Pre-Algebra

Who should take this course?

  • College Students
  • High School Students
  • Parents who want to help their child with math homework
  • Anyone who wants a better understanding of how to use a graphing calculator when doing algebra

What will students be able to do after taking this course?

  • Know the basic functions and keystrokes of the graphing calculator
  • Understand how to input information in the correct manner
  • Use the MODE menu to change calculator modes
  • Use the MATH menu and use special notations
  • Understand how to store values and evaluate expressions
  • Use graphing keys and menus
  • Graph different types of functions
  • Use the CALC menu to answer different types of questions about a function
  • Solve a system of equations
  • Graph a system of inequalities
  • Understand how to operate with functions and compose functions
  • Calculate and graph a regression equation
  • Use matrices and matrix operations
  • Operate with complex numbers

There are several different versions of the Texas Instruments Graphing Calculator that I use in this course, including the following:

  • TI-83 Plus
  • TI-84 Plus
  • TI-84 Plus Silver Edition
  • TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition
  • TI-84 Plus CE

I have chosen to use keystrokes and features that are the most universally compatible with the calculators in the list above. Later versions of the calculator may contain more advanced features than the calculator I use for my demonstrations, but my instructions should still provide an effective way of solving the problems with your particular calculator.
